ADMISSIONS
The admissions process consists of four stages: nomination and application, the Steppingstone exam and an interview.
Nomination and Application
Applicants need not be nominated; however, current fourth grade students
may be nominated by a parent, teacher or other adults. Once a nomination
is received, Steppingstone sends informational materials to the family
of the nominated student. All families are required to attend one Family
Information Meeting to learn about the finer details of the Steppingstone
Program.
Applications will only be
given to families in attendance. Dates and times for meetings
are available in late September. Please see the calendar page for details.
Steppingstone Exam
In February, all students who have submitted a complete application may
take the Steppingstone Exam, which is given only once a year. The exam
is hand-corrected by Steppingstone staff, so that each child’s academic
strengths and weaknesses are fully understood. Steppingstone then invites
a portion of the nominated students and their families to interview.
Interview
The interview is an important chance to ascertain whether or not Steppingstone
is a good fit for each applicant and his or her family, and vice versa.
A personal interview allows the Steppingstone staff to get a feel for
the applicant's qualities and traits that cannot be shown on paper. Final
decisions are made in early May.
