THE STEPPINGSTONE PROGRAM
The Steppingstone Scholars Program prepares motivated urban schoolchildren
for acceptance and success
at 
top independent and other college-preparatory schools in the greater
Philadelphia region. After gaining admission to Steppingstone Scholar
Program,Scholars participate in a rigorous academic preparation component
that spans 14 months. After completing the 14-month component, Steppingstone
provides comprehensive support services, including college counseling,
through middle and high school. After graduating from high school,Scholars
stay connected to Steppingstone through Alumni

What Makes Us Unique?
- Family Commitment
Steppingstone admits families, not just Scholars. Steppingstone's multi-year commitment to each child and family means that parents or guardians are involvedin the process from the moment they fill out an application until the Scholar's graduation from college. Because of their experience, families who have participated in the program with one child frequently apply again with younger siblings.
- Partnership with Placement Schools
Steppingstone works closely with the independent and public exam schools which are designated Steppingstone placement schools.The commitment placement schools make to the Steppingstone Scholars reflects their interest in becoming more inclusive educational communities.

Steppingstone believes that all children of every race and background deserve the opportunity
that education affords, and that providing
a heterogeneous environment is a more healthy and effective way to
prepare children for success.
Preparation and Placement
Over the course of 14 months, Scholars take
Steppingstone classes after school, on Saturdays,and during two
summers to prepare them for the challenging academic environments
they will experience at their new schools. During this time, Steppingstone
staff members work closely with Scholars and their families on all
aspects of the independent and public exam school application process.

After completing the 14 month program,

support, and college guidance to ensure that Scholars thrive personally
and academically in their new schools.
