Sean Vereen, Ed.D., has been the President of Steppingstone Scholars since 2013. Under Dr. Vereen’s leadership, Steppingstone has launched several innovative new programs and strategic partnerships, which have increased the organization’s impact and scope. Today, Steppingstone serves 2,500 students, a 300% increase during his tenure.
A noted thought leader in educational pedagogy and racial, social, and economic inequities within the educational system, Dr. Vereen served as Vice Chair of the Mayor’s Education Nominating Board for the School District of Philadelphia’s Board of Education and is a member of Johns Hopkins (Hopkins) Access Advisory Board, a national advisory board working with Hopkins’ Undergraduate Admissions Office to support their efforts to realize the goals of Michael Bloomberg’s $1.8 billion gift to Hopkins to increase the population of low-income and first generation students. He is also a board member of the Philadelphia School Partnership and a lecturer in the Higher Education Division at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Dr. Vereen received his B.A. from the University of Rochester and his Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
