We have partnered with the Philadelphia Youth Network to provide paid experiences for you to participate in our programming. If you live in Philadelphia and are over 12 years old, please complete the WorkReady Summer paperwork to be eligible for a stipend. Steppingstone’s code is WRS49

Summer program for rising 6th to 8th grade students in The Steppingstone Academy.
PYN stipend available: YesFor rising 7th and rising 8th graders from seven (7) local middle schools, this program will introduce you to careers in Biotechnology, Health Science, Computer Science, and Business. You will also participate in advisory meetings, group projects, a capstone project, and a host of electives, such as cooking, arts & crafts, fitness and dance. The seven middle schools include: Bethune, Duckrey, Dunbar, McMichael, Masterman, Carver and GAMP.
PYN stipend available: YesOur 9th grade Summer Bridge program will focus on the transition to high school. This program will emphasize time
management, study skills, goal setting, and college readiness to prepare you for your high school experience. Students
will have an opportunity to take math, science and writing classes as well participate in field trips and capstone projects.
We have partnered with area colleges and universities to provide various opportunities through University of
Pennsylvania, La Salle University, Temple University, and Arcadia University for you to earn college credits while in
high school.
This in-person program at the University of Pennsylvania will provide you with tangible experiences in computer programming. You will learn coding from Computer Science and Engineering majors and build knowledge in Java, one of the most powerful and popular programming languages. The curriculum is provided by Penn Engineering and you will have the opportunity to continue your experience in the school year.
Middle School students: Block-based programming and JavaScript.
High School students: Introductory Java, Intermediate Java
PYN stipend available: YesThis 6 week program will prepare and connect youth with training and work opportunities in various fields, including computer information technology, biotechnology/ pharma, customer service, health care, and more. We will focus on career development and help you in creating a 3-year Individualized Employment Plan (IEP).
PYN stipend available: YesOur new Biopharmaceutical/ Biotechnology Pre-Training program is run in partnership with HelaPlex, which is led by the 1st African American female Biotech CEO. The summer pre-training will prepare you to enter an intensive, hands-on 1-2 semester training for entry-level jobs in Biopharmaceuticals / Biotechnology, making crucial medicines and vaccines! Students who complete the summer pre-training and fall-winter training will earn leading pharmaceutical industry certification and be prepared for jobs with starting salaries of $38-45K (or part-time up to $18-22/hr). Graduates will also have opportunities for future growth in biotech and pharmaceutical careers by continuing their education and training, alongside the networking and mentoring from this program.
This summer pre-training is built as an extension to our Summer Bridge to Training & Employment program. Students will be part of the Summer Bridge for 6 weeks, with HelaPlex Biotech Pre-Training sessions held during part of this program during weeks 3-6.
PYN stipend available: YesThis is a new 6-week lab experience (4 days/week), with placements in Temple University’s cutting-edge Environmental, Biomedical, Electrical, & Computer Engineering research labs. Some placements will be full research internships, while some placements for younger students will start with shadowing and mentorship, with students taking on more responsibilities as the summer progresses. Steppingstone application due March 11.
PYN stipend available: YesThis experience will provide you with hands-on learning opportunities with local businesses. You will interview with local businesses and be placed in a job up to 20 hours/week for a 6-week summer job experience.
PYN stipend available: YesWe’re offering Science & Engineering internships with university and corporate partners. This includes:
ACS Project SEED connects motivated, low-income high school students with 8-week lab research internships in chemistry and related fields. This year’s projects and lab placements include Medicinal/Organic Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, and Biomedical, Environmental, & Materials Engineering, at Temple University and other sites. $3200 total stipend (PYN + ACS). Also requires Project SEED application, parental consent, & income documentation due to ACS by March 21.
