August 29, 2018

Philadelphia, PA (8/29/2018) – Steppingstone Scholars is extremely honored to announce it has received a $200,000 multi-year grant from The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. With the support of The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Steppingstone Scholars will work to strengthen The Steppingstone Academy and ensure that our Scholars pursue honors and advanced placement course trajectory at their schools. The Steppingstone Academy (TSA) is our 19-year-old core program that provides year-round academic enrichment, mentoring and school/college placement services for high performing low-income students to attend and succeed at high quality schools and colleges. Currently, 75% of our Scholars attend colleges rated very, highly, and most competitive, 46% of those Scholars are at Very Selective institutions and 26% are at highly and most selective colleges and universities. Our goal is to increase the number of Scholars from 26% to 40% over the next 5 years who attend the highly and most selective colleges and universities.

Sean Vereen, President of Steppingstone Scholars, Inc. states “Jack Kent Cooke's investment is a national recognition of Steppingstone’s commitment to supporting low income high achieving students as they access high quality schools and colleges. We have been working for a number of years to innovate core programming initiative, The Steppingstone Academy, to address the widening educational inequality our Scholars face. Jack Kent Cooke's support will help us expand our year-round academic and leadership enrichment from 5th grade to college.
